TREB has provided detailed input to the provincial government’s consultations on options for increasing housing supply in Ontario. You can view TREB’s submission here.

TREB Positions

TREB has been consistently calling for all levels of government to focus their housing policies on increasing the supply and variety of housing, and not just on demand for housing.  In this regard, TREB’s recommendations have focused on four key areas:

Government Consultations

The provincial government’s consultation focused on reducing housing costs and overcoming barriers to building more housing, such as:

  • How long it takes to get new housing developments approved
  • Restrictions on building a mix of different types of housing
  • High development costs due to rising land prices and government fees
  • Difficulties both landlords and tenants face
  • More innovation in the housing sector

Next Steps

The provincial government is expected to release a housing supply action plan this spring. TREB looks forward to continuing to work with governments at all levels to ensure that housing supply remains a priority.
