Why Participate in a Twitter Chat?
Twitter chats are a great way to promote discussion and dialogue amongst a large group of people on various issues and ideas.
When: May 17, 2016, at 12 p.m. – 1p.m. EST on Twitter @TREBhome, using #iheartrealestate
What: TREB is hosting a National Real Estate Day Twitter chat. Read on below to learn how you can participate, and maybe even win a prize!
How:
Step 1
Sign up for a Twitter account. If you already have one, great! If you haven’t used Twitter before visit the platform’s FAQ page to get a better understanding of Twitter lingo such as ‘retweet,’ “@” mention, ‘followers,’ etc.
Step 2
Follow the host of the chat. In this case, you would type @TREBhome in the search field, and click the “Follow” button.
Step 3
Join the chat! Twitter chats can vary in terms of length and format. Some chats can last for hours and some require you to RSVP while others don’t. But, always be sure to check the host’s time zone so you won’t miss out. When the chat begins, take part and following along using the chat’s hashtag.
In this case, TREB is using the hashtag #iheartrealestate so you would follow that on May 17, National Real Estate Day.
Step 4
Join the conversation! During the chat, the host will ask a series of questions. To participate, you can answer or retweet one of the host’s questions. You can also retweet other users’ responses, but make sure to follow the lead of the host. If you choose to respond to a question, don’t forget to add the hashtag #iheartrealestate in your response. Using the #iheartrealestate hashtag allows your tweets to be seen by participants in the chat and, in this case, using the hashtag will also put you in the running for a prize!
Step 5
Enjoy the chat. Don’t be discouraged if you don’t really know what you are doing. Twitter chats are just a fun way to be a part of social media and join in the conversation.
