TRREB Members give back to their communities by holding local fundraisers and volunteering at food banks, hospitals or shelters. To pay tribute to their good deeds, we handed out five Community Service Awards this year. Read on to discover the volunteers and award winners who spent countless hours putting smiles on people’s faces.

Cathy Lawlor, a REALTOR® for 12 years, has a passion for supporting future generations. She took the lead in a basketball tournament to raise money for Youth Speak. This charitable organization promotes the mental health and well-being of young people. In two tournaments, over $25,000 was raised. And, when the pandemic hit, Cathy organized an online talent show benefiting Youth Speak which raised $2,500. She also donates a portion of her commission from each deal, with $9,000 donated to date.

Since 2015, Amol Kapoor, a GTA REALTOR®, laced up his running shoes to take part in the annual walk for the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Over $7,000 was raised and will help families, patients, and caregivers navigate kidney disease.

Anastasia Orlando and Rose Sorbera, Bradford REALTORS®, kick-started the opening of The Clothes Line, a local thrift store. It is run by CONTACT Community Services, a charity for South Simcoe residents who are at risk of homelessness. Together, they help redirect unwanted clothing and small household items for free or at affordable prices, with 100 per cent of the profits going towards CONTACT.

Don Patel, a REALTOR® for 14 years, has contributed numerous hours to charities, including Habitat for Humanity, United Way of Peel and Meals on Wheels. Last summer, he conducted a park clean up across the City of Brampton and provided lunch to the healthcare workers at the Brampton Civic Hospital.
